This year, the festival presents 206 films, including 18 world premieres and 51 Mexican premieres, with screenings in Guanajuato City, Irapuato, and right here in San Miguel. Most events are free to the public, offering a rare opportunity to experience global cinema in one of Mexico’s most iconic cities.
San Miguel’s portion of the festival will open with the U.S. production Omaha at Cinemex La Luciérnaga, but the magic goes far beyond the theater. As always, the festival breathes new life into the city — filling plazas, cafés, and rooftop bars with conversations, creativity, and a vibrant international atmosphere.
Why So Many Are Moving to San Miguel de Allende
Festivals like GIFF are just one of the many reasons people from the U.S., Canada, and other parts of Mexico are moving to San Miguel. The city’s rich cultural calendar, stunning colonial architecture, and thriving art scene make it more than just a travel destination — it’s a lifestyle.
For those exploring real estate in San Miguel, events like this drive consistent tourism and contribute to the city’s strong vacation rental market. Many homeowners choose to live here part of the year and rent their properties when they’re away — making it an ideal option for those looking to invest in a second home or generate income from short-term rentals.
Whether you’re searching for homes for sale in San Miguel to settle down, retire, or use as a rental property, this city offers an unmatched blend of authenticity, elegance, and opportunity.
